Website Development FAQs

squarespace.jpg

I design websites on the Squarespace platform. Squarespace is a self-contained platform that works seamlessly and is fully managed from top to bottom. This means there’s never any need to update software, plugins, or widgets; patch security vulnerabilities; or worry that changing one component might break something else. It also means there’s rarely any need to investigate or pay for third-party apps or plugins since most functionality is native to Squarespace. Domains also come with your Squarespace site.

What is your process?

The thought of building a website or undertaking the project can be overwhelming but it doesn’t need to be. I walk clients through the process, from start-to-finish, and help bring clarity to your brand and vision. Your first step is contacting me and we will discuss what will work best for you and your business.

Keep in mind, while I am a developer of Squarespace sites, should a Squarespace site not be a fit for you or your business, I can manage your website design project through my website development partner.

What are the costs?

This all-in-one solution has a small monthly fee but everything you need is provided as part of that: templates, a content management system, hosting, e-commerce, support and a domain. Costs can be found here. Contact me for a website design estimate.

Will my site look like a template or a custom site?

A custom site! While it is true that Squarespace has a tightly curated library of templates to work with, the templates are there to act as a jumping-off point. Your website will be distinct and beautifully branded, but maintain a familiar user experience.

Can you help with content?

Of course! Content and design are one of my specialties as a marketer. Having the right branding, imagery, and copy are prerequisites to creating a great website. We can work together to develop and source the right content and assets for your website.

What about ecommerce?

Squarespace Commerce plans are a powerful, simple, all-in-one way to sell products and services, and manage orders online. With mobile-friendly templates optimized specifically for online commerce, you can create eye-catching arrangements of products, promote sales, measure results, and much more. Ecommerce FAQs

Can I preserve SEO?

If your website has strong search rankings for key pages or blog posts that you would like to preserve, know that switching platforms may cause a temporary dip in established search rankings, but with Squarespace, however, that dip can be significantly reduced. First, Squarespace supports importing from most popular blogging platforms, letting your client keep the types of content that often contributes the most to their SEO rankings. Second, it’s easy to customize URLs so inbound links will continue to work. Third, if some pages don't migrate over to Squarespace, it's simple to create redirects that preserve those pages' SEO value.

Can I track my sites performance?

It’s easy to add Google Analytics tracking to websitex. Also the Squarespace Analytics lets you use any mobile device to review site traffic, see the most popular content, and track how visitors find your site.

What is the difference in Squarespace and Wordpress?

Squarespace and Wordpress is a rather tough confrontation. Why? Firstly, because both services are very reputable and have millions of active users. Secondly, because the former is a website builder, while the latter is an open-source platform. It’s like comparing the strength of boxers belonging to different weight categories.

Squarespace is a ‘software as a service’ (‘SaaS) website builder - you pay a monthly fee to use it, but everything you need to build and maintain your site is provided as part of that: templates, a content management system, hosting, e-commerce, support and a domain.

What happens when you the website design is complete?

I will transfer site ownership to you. I will take over as a contributor. Therefore, I can still make edits to the site down the road. I can train you on how to use the site or I can stay on to perform site maintenance. Additionally, you will be supported by Squarespace’s Customer Care team and their extensive Knowledge Base.
